To Every Lab, Golden And Shepherd Owner Whose Dog Still Brings The Ball Back... Just A Little Slower

Senior Golden Retriever next to a pile of bone-shaped soft chews
  • Why big dogs need a daily amount based on their weight
  • The jar math most brands don't show you
  • How to keep a big dog's routine going without running out

You Know Your Dog's Rhythm Better Than Anyone

The ball still comes back. Every time. It just takes a little longer than it used to.

Sitting down happens a bit more slowly. Getting up after a long nap takes a moment. On the walk, your big, proud dog sometimes looks back at you as if to say "give me a second."

Big dogs give everything. And with 60, 70, 80 pounds on four legs, their hips and joints carry a lot, every single day.

One Size Doesn't Fit A 70 lb Dog

Many joint chews give one amount for every dog. But a 15 lb terrier and a 75 lb Lab are not the same dog. That's why our daily amount is based on weight:

  • Up to 25 lbs: 1 chew a day
  • 26โ€“50 lbs: 2 chews a day
  • 51โ€“75 lbs: 3 chews a day
  • 76 lbs and up: 4 chews a day

And here's the honest math: a jar of 30 chews lasts about 10 days for a 70 lb dog. We'd rather tell you that upfront than have you run out after a week and a half.

Big-Breed Signs Worth Watching

Dogs are experts at hiding discomfort. Watch for these small changes, especially if your dog is 6 or older, a larger breed or very active:

  • Takes longer to get up in the morning
  • Hesitates or stops jumping on the couch, bed or into the car
  • Walks are getting shorter, or your dog lags behind
  • Stiff for a while after lying down
  • Avoids the stairs or takes them one at a time
  • Back legs look a bit wobbly or less steady
  • Less eager to play or greet you at the door

Recognize one or more of these? Then it's worth knowing what's happening inside your dog's joints. If you're worried about your dog's health, always check in with your veterinarian.

Here's What's Happening Inside The Joint

Your dog's body naturally makes glucosamine and collagen, the building blocks that keep joints cushioned and gliding. Over the years, the body makes less of them. That's when three things start to add up:

  1. The cushion gets thinner

Cartilage is the smooth, springy layer at the end of each bone. When it gets thinner, there's less padding with every step and every jump.

  2. Joints move less smoothly

The fluid that helps joints glide becomes less effective, so movement feels less fluid, especially after rest.

  3. Recovery takes longer

After a long walk or a play session, joints need more time to feel comfortable again. Big dogs and athletes feel it first.

Each of these makes the others harder. It's not "just age". It's a shortfall in what the joints need, and that's something you can support.

What Most Owners Try First (And Why It's Often Not Enough)

If you've been dealing with this for a while, you've probably tried at least one of these. None of them are wrong. They just tend to cover only one piece of the picture:

  • Waiting it out. Hoping it's a phase. But joints don't get their building blocks back by waiting.
  • More rest, fewer walks. It feels kind, but too little movement weakens the muscles that support the joints.
  • Fish oil on its own. Good for omega-3s, but it contains none of the cartilage building blocks.
  • Pills and powders. Fine on paper, until your dog spits them out or leaves the bowl. A skipped day is a skipped dose.
  • "Joint" treats and single-ingredient chews. Often one ingredient, or one number for a whole blend, so you can't tell how much your dog really gets.
  • Switching to another brand of the same thing. Different jar, same one or two ingredients.

That's why we combined 10 ingredients in one chew, printed every amount on the label, and made it something your dog sees as a treat.

    She actually eats them!

Tried a couple of joint supplements before and Daisy wouldn't touch them. No problem with these. Too early to say much about the results but I'm happy so far.

    Really easy to give

Oscar can be picky with supplements but he gets excited when I open the jar. Delivery was quick and everything arrived nicely packed.

A little more pep in his step

Been using these for around six weeks now. Milo still has his slower days but he seems a bit more active lately, especially on our evening walks.

Hi Mark! Yes, the amount is based on weight: one chew per 25 lbs a day, so most dachshunds need just one.
